The design of the Four Seasons private island resort at Voavah brings the beauty of the sea and sand indoors

In a world where exclusivity reigns supreme, imagine a secluded 5-acre oasis nestled within the pristine UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of the Maldives—an untouched sanctuary reserved solely for you. A private playground in paradise, Four Seasons Maldives Private Island at Voavah emerges as an exquisite testament to the harmonious blend of luxury and natural splendour. Voavah days revolve around the double-storey Beach House and adjacent powder white sands, crystal lagoon and vibrant reef. Laze in the shady open-air lounge, dive into the pristine waters, harmonise at The Ocean of Consciousness Spa, celebrate in style with a moonlit banquet or pool party, or hop on Voavah Summer – a private luxury yacht, and explore territory into blissful oblivion and a breathtaking Baa Atoll sunset.

Transcending the conventional boundaries of exclusivity, this secluded sanctuary embodies a design philosophy that celebrates the seamless integration of sophistication with the raw beauty of its surroundings. Conceived as an organic extension of its idyllic location, Voavah synchronizes with the natural elements of the Maldives archipelago effortlessly. Cedric Jaccard, from the esteemed Avalon Collective, elucidates the design process, revealing how the island’s layout unfolded organically, paying homage to its existing beauty. By preserving the island’s pristine landscapes and restricting development to the periphery, the design team ensured an unspoiled ambience that heightens the sense of exclusivity and exploration.

Interiors
Voavah’s interiors exude an elemental elegance that complements, rather than competes with, the island’s breathtaking panoramas. Embracing a neutral colour palette and absence of confining walls. The interiors seamlessly merge indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering a profound connection with nature. The strategic use of copper, leather and wood accentuates the island’s innate allure, casting ever-changing shadows that dance with the sun’s rays.

Each corner of Voavah whispers tales of worldly travels and cultural influences, inviting guests on a captivating voyage of discovery. On the island, visitors are welcomed with a symphony of meticulously curated design elements, including Java teak root benches, sculpted birds, and ornate wooden doors that beckon further exploration. The Beach House, adorned with Arabic motifs, epitomizes communal luxury, offering panoramic vistas and intimate gathering spaces that blur the lines between indoors and out.

Sea-inspired art
Taking inspiration from Maldives’ rich marine life, Voavah’s walls feature eclectic artworks sourced from across the globe. Inspired by the resort’s conservation initiatives, these pieces pay homage to the ocean’s wonders, from ceramic bas-reliefs of turtles to abstract sculptures crafted from cable ties—a homage to the resort’s commitment to coral reef regeneration.

A private paradise
Since its unveiling in December 2016, Voavah has redefined the concept of private island luxury, offering discerning travellers an unparalleled retreat within the heart of the Maldives. With its seven bedrooms, Dive School, Ocean of Consciousness Spa, and a 62-ft yacht, the island caters to every whim of its guests, promising an exclusive experience imbued with a profound sense of ownership and connection to nature.

Four Seasons Maldives Private Island at Voavah stands as a testament to the transformative power of design, seamlessly weaving together luxury, sustainability, and natural beauty.
